The online dating exploits of a lady of a certain age

So I'm Sue and I'm the person who matters at SiteMaid Design. A good little design company that could use a bit more work from time to time. I am a lady 'of a certain age' but still, I hope, fun and funky. Inside I'm still 21.

I've been a widow for 12 years - my husband died relatively young. After about ten years on my own all was going well, but I had got a bit lonely, dowdy and stuck in a rut. There was life happening out there but I wasn't part of it, so I decided to do something about it.

Well, my dears, I launched myself on the Atkins diet and lost a couple of stones, blonded my hair and refurbished my wardrobe and make up drawer. Then (with some trepidation) I joined an Internet dating agency and there the fun began. So settle down with a coffee and I will tell all.

First of all I had an email from a guy who described himself as slightly disabled. He offered me a holiday in the Gambia, all expenses paid. He said he had girlfriends in the resort but he would be pleased to introduce me to some charming Gambian gentlemen (!) Evidently, I would need to be very sexy (I can imagine), very adventurous (oh yes) and of medium build (why?). I can only imagine he was a pimp. Oh dear.

A few other odd guys got in touch : a photographer from Brum who wanted to do strange things, view strange films and photograph me involved in strange activities, oo-er. The car park freak ; I really cannot go into what he wanted , but suffice it to say it was to take place in a Services on the M62. A guy in Ipswich swore undying love (sight unseen of course) and was desperate to marry me but then decided Hull was too far to drive.

An ex-pat in India is a closet voyeur (his words) and wanted to look at my legs. Oh yes, and dont let me forget the student who is younger than my son and wanted me to teach him. Well lets leave that to your imagination. And the very short guy in America who likes overweight ladies with big bursts. So far, of those getting in touch, 79 is the oldest, 27 is the youngest and the farthest away is in Karachi.

Thank heavens I did not meet any of that lot although I must say they provided me with enough stories to dine out on for years. I have had a few (thankfully normal) dates but no-one who rang my bell. But, as my daughter says, you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find the prince.

So my haul included the mad, bad and dangerous to know as well as married guys looking for a discreet relationship, the terminally ugly and the desperately lonely. I sometimes despair of ever meeting Mr Right, but faint heart never won a hunk. Watch this space.
